Passionate anglers are always looking for the perfect fishing rod & reel combos. There are many fishermen who firmly believe that it is not merely a matter of luck that allows them to catch the big fish they are after. There is a science to fishing, and with today's modern technology fishing has become quite high-tech. The materials for the fishing rods and reels have been fine-tuned over the years and now hold great promise in helping even the novice angler catch the big one. There are many different types of fishing techniques and styles, and the kinds of fish that are sought after can vary greatly.

Fishing has been around since man first learned how to hunt for food. Eons ago the first humans used pointed sticks to hunt for their food. The early humans did not have fishing lines and reels. They were not able to fish in deep water because they would not have been able to spear the fish very easily. The early method of fishing consisted of jumping into a shallow stream or lake and looking for the aquatic animal. It was then a matter of quickly jabbing the spear into the water and hoping to push the stick right through the fish.
Fishing in the ancient way required great dexterity and patience on the part of the hunter. As humans progressed the fishing methods slowly evolved. Fishing lines started to be used but there were still no fishing rod & reel combos in those days. The fishing rod merely consisted of a stick to which a length of rope was attached. At some point someone discovered that live bait was a good way to catch the attention of the aquatic life teeming beneath the surface. Soon people were not content to merely catch a few fish. The dawn of commercial fishing was now beginning.
Expert weavers made large nets with very small holes so that the catch could not escape. These nets were attached to fishing trawlers and this made it possible to start catching the fish en masse. This is still how the fishing industry works nowadays. The fishing vessels go out on the ocean and simple let down the nets and then wait. They are always sure to catch something because there are so many nets and they are so large now. The nets are so strong that sometimes dolphins and small whales get caught in them. Many turtles have also lost their lives because of this.

Since there is always fish for sale in all grocery stores there is no need for anyone to fish for food. The sport of fishing is about more than catching something to eat. Many of the fishermen do indeed eat what they have caught. A lot will simply catch the fish and then set it free again. The sport of fishing is about being in nature and enjoying the wildlife and beauty of the surroundings. Many people go to the lake to fish so they can get away from it all.
Fly-fishing is the perfect case in point. This sport requires a lot of patience and the fisherman can spend hours standing in water or sitting in a boat. This is usually a solitary hobby since making a lot of noise and disturbing the water can scare away the fish. For many this is a very meditative hobby that allows them to forget the cares and worries of everyday life. Many of the fly-fishers immediately release the catch and start the process all over again. They enjoy the peaceful solitude of the surroundings and the fishing is only secondary.
Those with a more active interest in getting their catch are always on the lookout for the magical fishing rod & reel combos that will help them get the fish that they can tell stories about. Many people have secret fishing holes that they will not share with anyone else. Those unfortunate enough not to have such a secret place are relying more and more on modern technology to accomplish their fishing objective. Lures are now said to be the big thing in the fishing industry. If you do not have the right lure the fish will not bite even if they see an object in the water.
The fisherman of today will bring out his fish-finder gadget and find where the water is teeming with potential catch. Then it is a matter of attaching the best lure for the particular species that is in the water. Some people swear by live bait, and there are still many individuals with their buckets of worms enjoying this sport. This is not high-tech enough for many and they would rather use one of the hundreds of lures that can be bought in stores. There are shiny lures, rubbery lures, and even metal lures.
Every fisherman has a favorite type of lure and he would not think of switching to something else unless someone can really convince him that it is worth it. The items available in fishing stores are really quite amazing and it seems that with so many gadgets it should be possible for just about anyone to bring in a huge catch. The ancient humans would be quite surprised to see what an easy sport angling has now become. No more running around in a cold stream with a spear in hand. It is all quite leisurely nowadays.

If you are an ice-fisher you will know how easy it is to relax when you are fishing. Most ice-fishermen have huts that are assembled on the frozen lake. They then sit inside and have a heater or fire to keep warm. They drill a hole in the ice and put the fishing-rod down the hole and hope to get a catch. It can sometimes take hours to catch anything. Sometimes there is no catch at all. But ice-fishing is all about the companionship of sitting with several good buddies and having a few beers. It is all about the companionship and social aspect of fishing.
Those who are interested in more adventure in their fishing will likely be interested in big-game fishing. Blue marlin is the preferred species. These fish reside in the more tropical ocean waters of the world. Fishing for marlin is a very expensive hobby and not everyone can afford it. You have to charter a fishing vessel that is specially equipped for marlin fishing. The boat is equipped with reels that are fastened to the top of the boat's railings. These are heavy-duty fishing rods and reels. The blue marlin is extremely strong and will fight like a tiger when caught.
Most of the marlin fishermen spend most of their time on deck relaxing since the rods are fastened to the boat. Once he sees that there is a catch on the rod, the fisherman jumps up and gets ready for the fight. Marlin will put up a ferocious fight and it takes a strong person to reel in the fish. It can take quite a while to accomplish this task. This sport is not for the timid. Every successful fish story has winning fishing rod & reel combos at the core of its success.
