Safety Tips While Wind Surfing
Bring A Friend
You should always go wind surfing with someone else. This way, they can help you if you need it. They can also go get help if there is nothing that they can do on their own.
Do Not Leave Your Board
The board floats, so do not leave it and try to swim to shore. Just hold on and wait for help to come. You need to do this even if the board is floating deeper. The only exception would be if you know that help is not coming. Then you can try to swim with the board.
Tell Others Your Plans
Always let someone know where you are going wind surfing and when you plan to get back. This way, they will know that something has gone wrong if you take too long to return.
Wear The Right Attire
You need to have a life jacket. This is crucial. You may also want to have a wetsuit so that you do not get cold and a helmet in case you crash and strike your head on something. Do not just try to go out in your normal swim suit.
Inspect The Board and Sail
Before wind surfing, look everything over. Make sure that the lines have not frayed or broken. Check that all of the screws and bolts are tight and secure. You need to know that the board is ready before you commit to taking it out.
Check The Weather
You should always look at the weather before you go out. Check to make sure that no storms are coming. You do not want to be surprised by anything when you are out on the water. You need to know beforehand that conditions are going to be safe and ideal for wind surfing.
Be Aware Of Your Limits and Skills
Many people try to go out on days when the water is too rough. If you are very skilled, you may be able to do this. You need to know just what you are capable of, however, so that you do not try to do something that is too difficult.
Remain Calm
Above all, you must remain calm if there is a problem while you are wind surfing. Try to think rationally and always work to conserve your energy.
