Wakeboarding was inspired by many sports, but in essence it was the evolution of a sport known as skurfing. This sport was popular in the 1980’s and basically involved a boat pulling a surf board and its rider behind it. Two men out of San Diego, California decided to take that idea a little bit further by shrinking the size of the boards that were pulled behind the boats, they were called skurfboards. From there the boards were redesigned by another person, so that they included bindings, in order to make them easier to ride. Finally, in 1990, wakeboarding came into existence by the invention of the first commercial wakeboard.
While wakeboarding is one of the most fun activities an individual can do on the water, it is also one of the most extreme. This is because when a person is wakeboarding he or she is traveling at a high rate of speed, which can lead to a hard impact onto the surface of the water, if he or she were to fall or miss a jump.
