Water covers more than 70% of the earths surface. Most of it lies in the oceans and is saline, and not fit for human consumption. 2.5% of this precious liquid is fresh water, and is mostly found below ground level and in glaciers as ice. This is also what we know as Drinking Water and can be consumed by humans. Drinking Water is one of the most precious natural resources.
Why is Drinking Water Important?

The water in the human body accounts for about 55-60% of the body weight. Drinking Water is essential to keep the organ systems functioning optimally. A lack of water in the body can lead to dehydration, and in extreme cases, this condition can be fatal. It is crucial for you to consume at least six to eight glasses of Drinking Water every day. This amount may need to be increased depending on the activities that are undertaken and the temperature and level of humidity in the region.
Drinking Water helps keep the body free of toxins. It also helps transport oxygen and nutrients to different parts of the body, and helps the body stay strong. The H2O in the body assists in maintaining a normal body temperature and facilitates better organ functioning. A lack of Drinking Water in the system can lead to conditions such as headaches, fatigue, kidney problems and dehydration.
People need water to maintain a good level of personal hygiene. From bathing and answering natures calls to washing clothes and keeping ones home clean, H2O is essential. It is estimated that the average American needs about 200 gallons of water every day. From the moment you brush your teeth in the morning to the repletion of this process before you go to bed, you need this vital element frequently during the day. Drinking Water is needed for cooking your meals, washing fruits and vegetables. It is an essential ingredient in most recipes, especially for gravies and curries. When you are outside your home you may need to buy bottled Drinking Water.
In most developed countries the water that is supplied to homes is cleaned and processed and delivered as Drinking Water. This is not true of developing and under developed nations of the world, where water borne diseases are a cause for grave concern. Drinking Water can be sourced from below ground level, from water bodies such as lakes, spring and rivers, from rainwater and also from desalination plants that make saline water worth consumption.
When one consider the amount of Drinking Water that is available across the globe it becomes clear that it is essential to conserve this natural resource. This may be done by making deliberate efforts to reduce the use of Drinking Water for any other purpose other than for human consumption. The use of Drinking Water can also be brought down by making simple, yet, wise choices such as turning the tap of while brushing or shaving, or opting for a shower instead of a bath. Watering the garden in the early hours of the morning, when evaporation is slower than it is mid-day, will reduce the amount of water that is needed for this process.
