Introduction to Motor Boating
A boat powered by an engine is called a motorboat or speedboat. Motor boating refers to the activity of travelling across water on a motorboat. Most motorboats usually have an outboard motor fitted at the rear, which consists of gearbox and a propeller. Others come with inboard engines. Motorboats come in various sizes and can range from small boats which are suitable for few people only to very big yachts which can accommodate a large number of people to extreme racing boats like the one pictured here. A motor boat should be preferably streamlined, which increases the speed due to the reduced air resistance and drag. continued below ...

BEST PLACES FOR MOTOR BOATING
Australia is highly popular place for all kinds of water sports including motor boating. The magnificent beaches and surrounding wildlife are a treat to behold. New Zealand is also a good destination for motor boating with its beautiful landscape, glorious beaches and emerald waters. In USA, California offers plenty of nice areas for speed boating, or casual motor boating. Andalucía in Spain is a very enchanting place to experience the beauty of nature while travelling over the serene waters on a motor boat.
SAFETY TIPS
Motor boating is a very enjoyable activity but without proper safety measures it can turn dangerous.
• It is imperative that there is a personal floatation device (PFD) or life jacket for every passenger in case someone falls overboard. It is preferable to keep other PFDs like seat cushions which can be thrown out.
• A flashlight with spare batteries should be present on board. Other essential items include a basic toolbox with tools appropriate for the boat and some spare parts for the boat in case some part becomes irreparable.
• A well maintained first aid kit should be available on the boat for emergencies.
• Navigational charts for the area should be brought so that it is easier to navigate. Otherwise, a GPS navigation system should be installed so that one doesn’t get lost.
• It should be made sure that flares and horns are available on the motor boat. They must be stored in a dry place. Flares are needed to signal others in case of any emergencies.
• Weather forecast should always be checked before heading out. A weather radio should be present on the boat to keep track of weather changes. In case of stormy weather, it is recommended that one head for the shore and drop anchor there.
• It is a good practice to have at least one anchor set up and attached to the anchor line.
